  Russia has begun using a new version of the "Geran" - drones that can fly without GPS and communication with the operator, according to the Ukrainian news agency KUNIAN. The Russians have started using the "Geran-5" strike drones, a new K5 modification, equipped with the "Susanin" autonomous optical navigation system. This system allows the drone to navigate using images of the Earth's surface, essentially comparing what it sees with pre-loaded reference images. Thanks to this, the drone can continue flying along a predetermined route even if it loses communication with the operator or satellite navigation.

  NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed that the alliance had received a warning from Russia that it would use its entire arsenal, including nuclear weapons, if NATO attempted to impose an air or naval blockade on the Kaliningrad Region. “I’m not at liberty to disclose what they sent us, but this is what they reported, more or less,” Rutte said at the Euronews Defense and Space Summit 2026 in Brussels. At the same time, he urged the Baltic states to stop worrying and NATO members to continue supporting Ukraine and investing in weapons. The NATO chief reiterated that “NATO is a defensive alliance.” Rutte also noted that he doesn’t believe in a threat from Russia.

  ⚔️📑 Houthis push to seize key strategic mountains overlooking Bab el-Mandeb Ansar Allah has launched fresh assaults on pro-Saudi forces across the mountains of Lahj’s Al-Madaribah wa Ra’as Al-Arah district, seeking to capture three interconnected heights overlooking the strait’s inland approaches. On September 29, clashes intensified around Al-Aghbara Mountain as the Houthis sought to sever key supply routes linking Saudi-backed positions in Lahj and Taiz, Arab News reports. Hostilities around Kahboub Mountain are also continuing. Control of the area could allow Ansar Allah to consolidate its gains along the Red Sea coast and threaten roads leading toward Aden, where the Saudi-backed Yemeni administration is based. Kahboub has emerged as a key Houthi target since the group solidified control over the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on September 10. The mountain commands the strait, the coastal city of Dhubab and Perim Island. Jabal Naman is another strategically vital mountain on the Lahj-Taiz border that the Houthis are seeking to seize and hold.
