⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦 — Russia has opened a deadly new phase in its war against Ukraine by deliberately targeting the country's railway network, with six workers killed Tuesday when a ballistic missile struck a locomotive depot during a massive bombardment of Kyiv that left at least 12 dead, according to the Guardian. ➡️ Ukraine's state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed the deaths, with chair Oleksandr Pertsovsky calling it "an unbearably difficult night for the entire railway family." The attack came as Russia carried out continuous raids on the capital for a sixth straight day, beginning hours before Ukrainian children started the new school year. ➡️ Since the full-scale invasion, 58 railway staff have been killed and at least 318 injured. Ukraine's rail network is Europe's third largest, with 15,000 miles of track, transporting 600,000 people weekly and serving as the main logistical supplier for the army and industry. It has also carried four million civilians and world leaders including Joe Biden and Andy Burnham. ➡️ Serhih Leshchenko, a supervisory board member, said Russia has shifted tactics from targeting bridges and substations to "direct attacks on civilian locomotives" at a time when Ukraine is short of air defenses. So far this year Russia has hit the network more than 1,500 times — higher than all of 2025 — with 249 carriages and 492 locomotives damaged. Trains now face regular delays of 12 to 15 hours, and passengers are frequently forced to evacuate and take cover. ➡️ Leshchenko said the strikes are hurting Ukraine's economy and slowing grain exports, urging Western partners to provide air defenses to protect the railway. In recent days Russia has launched over 1,500 drones at Ukraine, including 800 jet-fuel models that are harder to intercept, with attacks now continuing around the clock rather than in periodic swarms. ⭐️ Follow @MaxOsintIntel
