#NEWS | 🇸🇪 — Swedes are heading to the polls Sunday in a closely fought parliamentary election that will decide whether the nationalist Sweden Democrats enter government for the first time or the centre-left opposition returns to power.
A win for the current government side would give cabinet posts to the Sweden Democrats, a party with deep nationalist origins that has supported Kristersson’s minority administration from outside government since 2022. The party, now polling in the high teens, has made immigration, crime and national identity central issues. Andersson’s camp has campaigned on welfare, household costs and a return to more traditional Social Democratic priorities.
Voting ends at 8 p.m. local time. Exit polls are expected shortly afterward, with the first official preliminary counts due later in the evening. Government formation could follow relatively quickly if the right-wing bloc secures a majority, given the parties’ pre-election alliance.
