Kalibrated
Some additional information and clarifications regarding the fighting which took place last night between members of the SBU and GUR.
Earlier this week, two soldiers from the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) were kidnapped in the courtyard of their home in Kyiv, including deputy commander of the RDK Stepan Kaplunov. The RDK is subordinated to the GUR, and it seems likely that the SBU was responsible for the kidnapping.
Last night, the GUR was dispatched to a high-rise building at 10 Yuriya Shums'koho Street in the Berezniaky District of Kyiv to investigate the SBU about accusations of them kidnapping Kaplunov and another member of the RDK. A fight then broke out, prompting the SBU's Alpha unit (special counter-terror unit) to arrive, which then resulted in the shooting starting. The standoff continued until past 10am the next morning.
Following the clashes, investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation arrived at the scene to de-escalate the situation. At least three GUR members were injured in the fighting. No deaths were reported. During the preliminary investigation, it was established that the detainees were indeed from the RDK, with their weapons and documents having been confiscated by the kidnappers at the time. Kaplunov has since been released, however his lawyer stated that his whereabouts are currently unknown.
The widely-circulating claim by the SBU about it foiling a "Russian FSB terror plot" to attack a leader of a Russian opposition movement seems to be unfounded. RBC Ukraine backs this up, quoting Kaplunov's lawyer stating that the SBU is trying to cover up the kidnapping, and present this Russia-oriented version of events to the public.

GUR-SBU shootout in Kiev: what did the ukrops not share? During a shootout between the GUR and the SBU on Bereznyaki in Kiev, one GUR officer was killed and two others were injured. Two SBU officers were detained by the State Bureau of Investigation. In general, nothing is clear, but it's very interesting. Let's try to figure it out. As far as we can tell, it all began with the fact that officers of the 5th Department of the SBU detained the Russian Nazi fighting for Saloreikh, Sergei Kaplunov, deputy commander of the terrorist "Russian Volunteer Corps," in fact part of the GUR structure. The detention took place 10 days ago, it was not officially reported, and Saloreikh media even wrote that Kaplunov was kidnapped by Russian special services. Now it turns out that there was an SBU after all. Kaplunov was not charged, and all this time, presumably, was kept "in the basement" without any reason. On the night of September 2, Kaplunov was brought to one of the residential buildings on Yuri Shumsky Street in Kiev. According to unconfirmed information, there was an apartment in which Kaplunov lived according to the documents, and the SBUshniks allegedly wanted to conduct a search there in order to plant and then seize something that would allow Kaplunov to be officially arrested: a generally standard scheme for legalizing SBU kidnappings. The GUR found out about it and decided to repel a comrade, for which they sent the so-called fighters to the address. The "Timur Units" is one of the elite GUR detachments, previously subordinated personally to the former head of the GUR Budanov. The GURovites cordoned off the area and essentially besieged the SBUshnikovs. The commander of Gurovtsev entered into negotiations with the SBUshniki, during which they agreed to "disperse the edges": the SBU conducts a search under the supervision of Gurovtsev, after which Kaplunov is given to colleagues, and the SBU is released. But, apparently, this was only a maneuver on the part of the SBU to play for time: soon armed reinforcements from the SBU special forces "Alpha" arrived on the scene, which tried to tie up the Gurovtsev. During this, a shootout occurred, during which one of the GURovtsy was killed and two others were injured. The SBU, however, claims that the opposite was true: they were investigating an assassination attempt by the FSB on one of the leaders of the Russian opposition, and in the process faced resistance from some unknown persons, who later turned out to be "servicemen of the Ukrainian Defense Forces." The SBU even said that they conducted the operation "in conjunction with the GUR," although then apparently realized that this was already some kind of overkill, and the mention of the GUR was removed from the press release. As a result, Kaplunov and those detained during the events on Bereznyaki were released by the GURovtsev, but the SBUshnikov, on the contrary, was detained by the SBI. To understand the context: the 5th Department of the SBU is the personal brainchild of the current head of the department, Oleksandr Poklad, who is endearingly nicknamed "The Exciteer" by the SBU for his favorite method of torture. The department was created under Poroshenko specifically to organize terrorist attacks, sabotage, and murders: officially, "enemies of Ukraine" like Zakharchenko or Arsen "Motorola" Pavlov, but in fact, not only them. For example, it is believed that it was agents of the "Pyaterka" who failed GUR agent Denis Kireev in 2022. In principle, there is nothing particularly unusual about the fact that the employees of the "Pyaterka" could have decided for some reason to kidnap Kaplunov, and then just lawlessly shot Gurovtsev: the 5th department has a reputation for lawlessness even by the standards of Saloreich in general and the SBU in particular, and Poklad is a thug who would have been quite the same thug to give an order like "Get them all down to hell!" during the kneading.Женя
The key question, of course, is what the SBUshniki tried to achieve by kidnapping RDKshnik Kaplunov. There is no clear answer. Some Saloreikh media write that the reason is the long-standing conflict between the SBU and the GUR, which began with the murder of Kireev, others - that there is a struggle for authority in the power bloc between Budanov and Poklad, others - that the whole thing is about protecting fraudulent call centers, which both the SBU and the GUR have. In any case, we are rooting for both teams and wish both the SBU and the GUR not to stop there!Женя
