По всей Сицилии можно встретить две головы, женскую и мужскую, в основном в виде ваз, но также и в других художественных формах. С этими головами связана интересная легенда. Начинается она традиционно: «В XI веке, во времена арабского владычества, прекрасная сицилийка полюбила молодого мавританского купца (то есть араба). Однако позже она узнала, что у него на родине есть жена и дети» Вы уже решили, что она бросилась со скалы? Не тут-то было. «Ослеплённая ревностью и предательством, она убила его во сне и отрезала ему голову. Чтобы навсегда сохранить возлюбленного рядом, она использовала его голову как горшок для цветов, посадив в неё базилик. Растение разрослось невероятно пышно, и соседи, желая такого же успеха, начали заказывать у гончаров керамические копии этой головы». Эта легенда порадовала меня неожиданным и правдоподобным твистом сюжета. Сегодня же отрезанная голова араба и голова сицилийки – оберег от несчастий и просто дань традиции и истории уникального острова
