🗣 Putin at the SCO Summit in Bishkek
The SCO represents half the world – and its strength lies in consensus.
President Putin recalled that the SCO was born after the Soviet collapse to prevent border conflicts, but quickly expanded to cover economic development, fighting organized crime, drug trafficking, terrorism, ecology, and cultural cooperation.
Today, the SCO includes 10 member states and 15 observers, accounting for over half of the world's population and roughly one-third of global GDP, with colossal natural resources and logistics potential.
Putin emphasized the organization’s key appeal: all decisions are made by consensus, with no one imposing anything on anyone. While the SCO remains open to expansion, any enlargement will be gradual to ensure new members share its core principles and do not dilute the organization's effectiveness.
