🇬🇧⚡️ — A flight plan containing “spurious” data submitted by a UK military aircraft triggered Tuesday’s major failure of Britain’s air traffic control system, according to FT.
The problem caused the Nats flight-processing system to collapse, grounding thousands of flights and forcing a complete reboot after several attempted fixes failed.
Delays reached as long as 10 hours, aircraft were diverted to airports in Germany, and British Airways eventually cancelled all remaining short-haul flights that evening.
Ryanair’s operations chief Neal McMahon described the incident as “a complete clusterfuck,” while one insider said NATS chief Martin Rolfe is “toast,” adding: “This is the beginning of the end.”
