🇸🇾🇹🇷🇮🇱 Syria's security turns into Turkey-Israel tug of war
A rare high-level meeting between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Mossad chief Roman Gofman opened a direct channel between Damascus and Tel Aviv — but also exposed a deeper problem: Syria is caught between two competing powers.
Days before the meeting, Israel struck the Abu al-Duhur Air Base in northwestern Syria, hammering runways and hangars. Damascus insisted the facility was simply being repaired, not prepared for Turkish forces. Israel saw any potential Turkish military presence there as a red line — and bombed it anyway.
Three realities on the ground:
🔴 Turkey wields significant influence in post-Assad Syria — politically and militarily
🔴 Israel enforces its red lines with strikes and incursions, refusing to limit its freedom of action in southern Syria
🔴 Syria is caught in the middle — negotiating with both, but unable to satisfy either without triggering the other
💬 "Syria's political decision rests in Ankara because Damascus cannot escape Turkish influence, while the security decision rests in Tel Aviv. If those limits are crossed, bombing becomes the answer," a Syrian official told the Cradle.
The Sharaa government says it has already accepted many Israeli security demands and that a written framework was reached through US-mediated talks. Israel, however, continues to reject restrictions on its military freedom of action and refuses to treat the territory it controls in southern Syria as negotiable.

Ardogan will never have the balls to do what really has to be done! All he’s do is balancing on the fence to stay in power!Winter March
but they are still scared both stiff and silly just by the mere thought of meeting my LadyTruth Warrior
Israel is not a competing power when it comes to Turkey, but Turkey made some strategic mistakes out of greed, which it will pay a price eventually. Turkey helps the US secretly to weaken Russia's presence in Syria and end Iran's presence in Syria. Turkey has prevented Russia for crushing the rebels. Eventually Turkey won. Russia was weaken also because of the war the US started in Ukraine. Iran was thrown out of Syria. Turkey did not know that is was not about Assad, but about US and Israel's plan against Iran. When it comes to geopolitics, Sunni leaders lack the brain and intellectual capacity to understand the US and see the trap that the US is laying for them. No wonder that Trump said MBS is kissing his ass. How can someone think that Israel is capable of fighting Turkey? But that is the narrative that is spreading to make Israel looks more powerful against its enemy. They did the same with Iran. Netanyahu was so sure of his nonsense that he demand a capitulation from Iran, till Iran respond after the February attack. Turkey with an army that is the strongest in NATO after the US cannot even prevent Israel from eating Syria alive. Israel will keep doing it and it will eat part of Iraq too because for Israel's own security it needs to secure itself against Iran, cause it now sees what Iran can do. The only thing Erdogan is thinking is the F35. The US is forcing Turkey to get rid of the S-400 system making Turkey believe that it will ever get one F-35. That will never happen. If the US can go to war against Iran because Israel demand it, how will the US be able to sell Turkey F35 warplanes if Israel is against it? Erdogan joined the Mecca pact, but as i know this man, wherever he goes the results would be failure. That mean Pakistan and Saudi Arabia let an Trojan Horse. Erdogan never believed in Muslim unity. He believes in dominating the Muslim world by Turkey's membership of NATO. Who destroyed Libya, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan?Random User77
At this point, I really don't care. The Turkish are always playing on both sides...
