Why a channel has no score
An empty space instead of a number is not a bug. How many channels have it, and what is missing in each case.
On September 10, 2026 the catalog held 5,593 published channels. 658 of them — one in eight — show no score on the page. That is not one reason but four, each with its own number: 458 channels without views, 165 with too few posts, 7 with too few subscribers, and 28 the nightly run had not reached yet.
A score appears when there is something to measure. We do not put a zero there: a zero is a statement about the channel, and we have none to make.
No views: 458
The main signal of the score is engagement, and it is computed from post views. No posts in 30 days — no views — no score. That is the largest group.
Example: «tapswap community», 10,476,930 subscribers on September 10, 2026, posts in the last 30 days — 0. Ten million subscribers say nothing about whether anyone reads them, and a number on the page would be an invention.
A channel in this group brings its score back by itself: publish again, and the night after the fifth post the number appears. Subscribers stay on the page the whole time: we see them without posts, and the ten million of the example is a real measurement, not a memory of better days.
Fewer than five posts in 30 days: 165
The threshold is 5 posts in 30 days. Of the 165 channels, 67 had one or two posts in the month and 98 had three or four.
Example: «Major Community», 11,239,773 subscribers, 1 post in 30 days. One post gives a view count, but says nothing about consistency, reactions or growth relative to publishing: a score from one measurement would be the score of one day.
Fewer than a hundred subscribers: 7
The threshold is 100 subscribers. Below it, shares stop meaning anything: in a channel of 40 people one reader gives 2.5% engagement and one leaver collapses the chart. There are seven such channels in the catalog.
Not reached yet: 28
Scores are computed at night, around three o'clock UTC, across the whole catalog in order. A channel published during the day waits for the night. On September 10 there were 28 of them.
Chats, bots and mini apps: by design
329 records have no score and never will: 107 chats, 206 bots and 16 mini apps. The score is computed from posts and their views, and a bot has no posts. A chat page shows members and how many are online now; a bot page shows a description and a category. A number from 0 to 100 has no place there, and we do not draw one.
How to check the reason yourself
Everything needed is on the page. The line «Data as of …» under the metrics is the date of the last measurement; if it is older than three days, collection for the channel has stopped. The number of posts in 30 days stands next to the subscribers; fewer than five is the reason. The line «No posts in 30 days; the last one — …» means the channel went quiet, and we name the day it did.
«No data» and «0» are different words on the page. We write zero when we counted and got zero: reactions at 0.0% of views. We write «no data» when there was nothing to count from.
There is a score, but it is preliminary
That is a different case, and it is more common than all four together: 2,124 channels on September 10, 2026. The number stands on the page with the mark «preliminary». It means one of two things: fewer than 60 points out of 100 are measured — no growth history and no reactions, for instance — or the history is shorter than seven days.
A preliminary score takes no part in the comparison within the category and gets no rank. Once a week of history is in, the mark goes away by itself.
There was a score and it is gone
A score is valid for three days. If data collection for the channel stops — the channel closed, went private or changed its address — the number leaves the page after three days instead of hanging there stale. It returns with the collection.
How to read a score when there is one is the Place Score guide, with a live example. How to get into the catalog if the channel is not there yet is the guide next to it.
